First Loss for Seniors
By Scott Cameron on Monday, 5 November 2018
The Union senior team suffered its first loss of the season when it went down to Oamaru/SKC.
Union looked to be cursing to victory before former Otago Volt Craig Smith ripped through the Union middle order to leave them in tatters. Taking three wickets in one over, he finished with 5-23 of 9 overs. Earlier Jeremiah Shields (26), Thomas Shields (16), Duncan Drew (26) and Sean Conlan (35) had looked to get their side in a good position with wickets in hand before Smiths devastating spell. They limped through to 159 all out in the 42nd over, Glynn Cameron the only batsman past five in the order to make double figures.
Oamaru SKC batted first and made 208/6 in the first innings of the match thanks mainly to Smith (70) and Grobler (75) putting on 88 for the 3rd wicket. For Union, Sam Bastin took 2-29 while Matt Lilley took 2-45.
Union now has the bye next week.
