The Union Senior team was in dominant form in yesterdays Borton Cup fixture against Albion with a number of records broken.
Union batted first and the innings was dominated by an outstanding first wicket partnership between Jeremiah Shields and Sam Bastin. The pair put on 214 for the opening stand, a new club senior record, to set their team up for a massive total. Shields noticed up a career best of 117, and his second senior century, as Union recorded 320-2 in its 50 overs. All four batsmen made contributions to the total as Bastin (81), Sean Conlan (63*) and Thomas Shields (29*) piled on the pressure. Only Ewing (1-38) and Stockbridge (0-18) recorded economical figures as all other bowlers were hit for more than five an over. The total broke the previous highest total by a Union side against Albion in a limited overs fixture.
Always behind, Albion were never really in the match during their innings. Stockbridge (39), Brady Kingan (16), Brad Kernahan (17), Jonty Naylor (19), A Searle (14) all made double figures but never really kicked on for the massive innings that was required. Albion were all out in the 32nd over, 190 runs away from victory, their largest loss in a limited overs fixture against Union. Daniel Martin was the best of the Union bowlers with 3-4, while Blake James (2-21), Sam Bastin (2-34) and Brad Fleming (2-33) all picked up two wickets.
Union 320-2 ( J. Shields 117, S. Bastin 81, S. Conlan 63no, T. Shields 29no )
Albion 131 ( J. Stockbridge 39, J. Naylor 19, B. Kernahan 17, B. Kingan 16, A. Searle 14, D. Martin 3-4, B. James 2-21, B. Fleming 2-33, S. Bastin 2-34 )
