The Union Senior team had a comprehensive 141 run over Oamaru at King George Park.
Batting first the home team got of to a fantastic start with the Shields twins combining for a 150 run opening stand. Jeremiah was the first to go with 55, caught by Matt Murphy. Thomas continued and when he was finally dismissed he had 111 to his name as Union looked to attack in the final overs. Some good bowling from Oamaru though made scoring difficult as they manged to pull back the Union batting to a respectable 261 when one stage it could have been 300+. As mentioned both Shields gave their team the perfect start, Thomas then combined with Duncan Drew (29) to put their them in a great position to launch in the final overs. For Oamaru Richard Hattingh took 3-29, while Reece Curle took 2-48.
In their chase Oamaru never really got going with no one apart from a usual lusty innings from Jordie Bartlett (35) looking set for a big score. For Union Blake James (2-13) and Matt Lilley (3-16) put in some good bowling to keep the pressure on Oamaru, but it was leg spinner James Graham who had a senior debut he will never forget. He ripped through the middle to lower order bowling leg-spin taking 4-55 of seven overs. Oamaru all out for 120, 141 runs short of their target.
