The Union Cricket Club Senior team will play the Borton Cup final next weekend after a close 2 wicket win against Valley at King George Park.
Batting first Valley was bowled out for 115 in the 38th over of their innings after the first three wickets fell quickly. Dunnett (28) and Mavor (28) then combined for a 62 run partnership take the visitors to 76-3 before the wicket of Dunnett offered a catch to Matt Lilley. Valley then lost their final 5 wickets for 29 runs as Singh and Whyte ripped through the middle to lower order. Lilley (3-21) and Gary Singh (3-20) took three wickets each while Brad Fleming (2-19) and Jordy Whyte (2-2) took two wickets each.
With a low total Valley would need to bowl Union out to obtain victory and they came within two wickets of doing that. Union lost wickets in clumbs with Jeremiah Shields (31) and Sean Conlan (20) providing good contributions. The 9th wicket was the most cricital notching up a nervous 25 runs between Singh (8 not out) and Daniel Martin (13 not out) bringing their team home.
