The Union Senior team qualified for its 16 Borton Cup final in the weekend in a low scoring encounter against Oamaru on Saturday.
Batting first Union crawled to 139, lasting 45 overs. The Shields twins were defensive in their approach while batting putting on 69 runs before Thomas was caught by Jordy Bartlett for 25. This then started a collapse as the home team struggled to find momentum, losing wickets constantly. Blake Martin hit out for a six and two fours but was then caught behind of the bowling of Stephan Grobler. When Scott Kitto was bowled, they had only recorded 139 runs looking like a different team to the one that scored 290 the previous week.
Needing to constantly take wickets to have a chance of victory, Union soon had Oamaru 16-3 but Oamaru fought back to be looking comfortable at 86-5 with the dangerous Stephan Grobler at the crease. Captain Jeremiah Shields then decided it was time for Duncan Drew to bowl some left arm spin. In an incredible over his took three wickets, including Grobler, as Union fought its way back into the game. He then took the wicket of Reece Curle to finish with figures of 4-17 of of his 5 overs. It was left to Blake Martin to take the final wicket, Siwach bowled for 24, to give his side a 24 run victory and qualify for the Borton Cup final.
