The Union Senior successfully defended the Borton Cup in the weekend with a comfortable victory over the St Kevins College 1st XI in the Borton Cup final.

After winning the toss the school side elected to bat first and despite their adult players Regan George (13) and Craig Smith (24) making double figures they were dismissed for a paltry 107 in 31.5 overs. Looking wickets in clumps they lost their last 5 for 21 runs as the Union bowlers ripped through the batting. Brad Fleming (4-27) took three wickets in the space of 7 balls while Jordy Whyte (13) took the critical wicket of George. Craig Campbell was economical with his 1-8 of 6 overs.

Union's openers Thomas and Jeremiah Shields effectively took the game away from St Kevins with a 72 run opening stand, and while they lost four wickets for 26 runs the result wasn't in doubt. Jeremiah top scoring for the game with 33, while Thomas notched up 30. First drop, Duncan Drew was at the crease at the end finishing with 18 not out. For St Kevin's spinner Ben Kay was the only bowler that look threatening taking 3-16 of his 3.5 overs.

With the win seniors successfully retain the Borton Cup after an defeated season last season. This is the club's 33rd premiership since joining the North Otago senior competition in 1919.
