Union's Easter Tour team had a one win and a match called of in the latest edition of the Easter Tour.
In the first tour in two years (last years was called of due to Covid) the annual game against Naseby was called of due to wet weather, however the game against Ducks 'n' Drakes went ahead at the Oturehua Domain on Saturday.
Union got of to a fast start thanks to the Shields twins as they raced to 54 in only six overs. This was to be the theme of the innings with the teams run rate never dipping below a run a ball as they posted 245, all out in the 37th over. At the top of the order Jeremiah Shields (35) and Thomas Shields (24) put in good contributions while first drop Nick Webly also put in handy performance (32). It was Easter Tour debuante Stephan Grobler who was the star of the game though, top scoring with 82 with 62 of those coming from boundries (11 4s, 3 6s). Glen Patterson also put in 25 runs, as they were also helped by 26 wides from the Timaru side.
Desipte a fast start in the early overs Ducks 'n' Drakes never really looked like chasing the total down. Desipte 61 from Mark Rippen, they found scoring runs difficult as they ended up with 180/9 in their 40 overs 66 runs short of the required target. Harvey at the top of the order notcehd up 30, while Will Sharp (25) and Sam Sharp (24) reached the twenties. For Union Sam Bastin knocked the top of the order (2-32) while in an outstanding over Nick Johnson took 3 wickets in 5 balls to finish with 3-11.
