Seniors lose low scoring encounter
By Scott Cameron on Monday, 19 December 2016
The Union senior team lost a low scoring encounter at the Weston Domain in the weekend by 3 wickets.
After winning the toss they elected to bat and struggled throughout their innings with some tight bowling from the Valley bowlers on a very difficult batting wicket. Only Englishman Sam Bastin looked at times to be comfortable at the crease, however he still found it the wicket difficult during the majority of his innings. After 31 overs the innings was over, Bastin top scored with 29, Union all out for the small total of 77. For Valley Zach Naldrett took 5-17 while Francois Mostert took 2-5.
Needing early wickets and to take them constantly in order to have a chance of victory, Union made constant inroads into the Valley batting. Lachlan Kingan at the top of the order top scored for Valley notching up 25 runs before he was bowled by Daniel Conlan, the fourth wicket to fall with the score on 44. Union looked to be in a chance for Victory but an unbroken 8th wicket partnership between Denison and Harding lead them to victory. Dan Conlan was the best of the Union bowlers taking 4-22 while Brad Fleming took 3-28.
