The Union Senior side will defend the Payne Tempero Cup at King George Park this coming weekend after a convincing display against Albion during the weekend.
After losing the toss and being forced to bat on a low and slow batting wicket and lush outfield, Union lost opener Jason Todd early for 2. It was then that Sean Conlan and Jeremiah Shields combined for the biggest partnership of the game, the pair putting on 85 for the second wicket. Conlan was out for a well deserved half century and Union ideally placed at 114-2 with 17 overs left in the innings, however a massive collapse saw them lose 8 wickets for only 42 runs. Shields was the fourth of those wickets, out for 42. Smith was the best of the Albion bowlers taking 3-26, while Odell, Kernahan and Winter took two wickets each.
The Albion innings started badly with Smith run out for 2 and they never really recovered. Losing wickets constantly throughout their innings they never really looked at challenging the Union total. Ware and Cameron bowled their 12 opening overs for only 17 runs to pile the pressure on and then it was Drew bowling second change who ripped through the middle and lower order taking 5 wickets for only 7 runs. Drew took four wickets in hit first 10 balls and was on a hatrick in his second over. When the last wicket fell to the bowling of Isaac Shields, the Albion total was 74, 72 runs short of Union total.
