Recent weeks have seen research done that has brought to light of a member who on his debut joined a very exclusive club.

In the game against St Kevin's on the 1st of December, Matt Lilley was making his Union debut. Coming on third change he took 5-43 despite his team losing by 19 runs in the match. It turns out that with this effort he became only the fifth player to take five wickets in an innings during a Senior debut in the 104 year history of the Union Cricket Club and the first in 52 years. Matt joined a list containing club legends Graham Cowles and Ronald McDonald along with R Adamson and Julian Anderson.

Players to have taken five wickets in an innings on debut:
R Adamson vs. WBHS 25 November 1915 (5-40)
Ronald McDonald vs. Oamaru 14/21 October 1926 (7-35 & 4-.32)
