It was another hard fought win to the Union senior team yesterday when they took on second placed Valley at Weston.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first the home team were bundled out for a paltry 76. None of their batsmen reached 20 as a good bowling performance from the Union attack ripped through their batting order. Michael Ormandy (2-20) and Glynn Cameron (1-15) knocked the top of the Valley batsmen then first change bowler Paul Johnston spun his way to the great figures of 3-19 of 10 overs. Duncan Drew then finished it of with his left arm spin taking the incredible figures of 3-1 of 2.2 overs. Brad Fleming was the other bowler used, taking 1-15 of 6 overs.

Realistically the only chance of victory Valley had was to take 10 wickets and were rewarded early having Union 6-3. Glynn Cameron then combined with Sean Conlan to put on 22 for the 4th wicket looking like they were putting their team back on track but two quick wickets, Conlan (12) and Johnston (2), brought Valley back into the game. Antony Cromwell joined Cameron at the crease and they effectively put Valley out of the game with a 34 run 6th wicket partnership before the loss of Cromwell for 2. Cameron and Fleming then saw out the 12 runs need for victory with Cameron scoring more than half of his teams runs, being 40 not out when the target was passed.

The win sees the Senior team extend their lead to 25 points at the top of table, with WBHS joining Valley in second place on 50 points. Union will now look to complete an undefeated Borton Cup season at home and retaining the Payne Tempero for the second season in succession, taking on St Kevin's next weekend at KGP.
