In a high scoring game to start the season Union suffered a 34 run loss to Valley.

After winning the toss Valley got of to a great start with Kelvin Mansfield (86) and Tony Gray (46) putting on 134 runs for the opening wicket. After the completion of 45 over's, Valley was 239/8 with Glynn Cameron taking 3-38 of his 9 over's, and Thomas Shields was rewarded with some very good bowling taking 3-27. However the major news from the innings was the loss of veteran player and vice captain Paul Johnston, who broke a finger attempting to take a catch from Kelvin Mansfield early on, Union having to bat a man short in its chase of 240 for victory.

After a slow start and with the loss of the both openers Neil Rushton then looked to take the attack to Valley hitting 6 fours and a six in his innings of 46. Thomas Shields while not as aggressive in his approach as Rushton still batted well for his 45 while new recruit Glen Patterson scored 41 in a well timed innings. With the pinch hitting of Scott Gardiner (18 with 3 fours and 1 six) and darkness starting to set in Union looked to have a chance of pulling of a memorable victory but with the loss of the ninth and last wicket of the innings Seniors fell short by 34 runs.
