The Union Senior side marked the start of the season with a comprehensive 8 wicket win against a very slow scoring St Kevin's side thanks to a career best bowling effort from Glynn Cameron and James Cutt marking his debut in North Otago cricket with a solid batting performance. The game was originally scheduled as a Payne Tempero match but after the change of ground due to wet weather to St Kevin's from KGP, the match lost its status.
After winning the toss and electing to bat St Kevin's struggled to score runs as the Union bowlers keep a tight reign on the St Kevin's innings. When its 45 over's were completed, the home team had only recorded 128 runs to their name at barely 2.84 runs a ball. All bowlers finished with economical figures the best of which was Glynn Cameron in a career best of 4-14 of eight over's, of which 5 of those runs came in his last over - the last over of the innings. The spin twins of Paul Johnston (1-21) and new English recruit James Cutt (0-23) bowled well in tandem, with only 44 runs being hit of their 20 over's. Phillip Crossan bowled his ten over's in a row from the start of the innings finishing with 1-30. The other bowlers used were Mike Ormandy (0-24) and Jeremiah Shields (0-12).
Union started slowly in its run chase but soon Glynn Cameron started to show his batting skills as he looked to attack the bowlers. Cutt was the least aggressive of the openers as he opted to slowly build his innings. When Cameron was out it brought in Steven Lamb with Cutt now starting to score more freely. He took the bulk of the run scoring for the second wicket partnership, and when Lamb was dismissed for 7 they had recorded 50 runs together. This brought in the big hitting Jeremiah Shields who was aggressive right from the start. Of his 22 runs, 18 was from boundaries including a massive six to bring the total past St Kevin's, while Cutt carried his bat finishing on 69 not out. Union winning the match by eight wickets.
