A great all-round effort from the Union Senior team saw it to a 147 run victory over Waitaki Boys High School 1st XI.

After losing the toss and forced to bat, the Union openers (Glynn Cameron and James Cutt) combined for the largest opening partnership by the Senior team in five years. When Glynn Cameron was stumped for 42, he and James Cutt were just one short of a 100 run partnership. Cutt was dismissed only 6 runs later for 42. It was another partnership, this time 51, between Duncan Drew (20) and Thomas Shields for the third wicket that really set Union up for a large total. Shields continued the Union dominance of the innings and when he was dismissed he had recorded 43. After 45 over's, Seniors finished with a very competitive 204 for the loss of five wickets.

From the start of the Waitaki innings, the batsmen struggled as Philip Crossan and Daniel Conlon recorded some very economical figures. This led to the Waitaki batsmen adopting a more aggressive style as the innings went on but the Union bowlers were up to the task as wickets tumbled from both ends. First change bowlers Mark Wilson and captain Paul Johnston both finished with 3-11, while part time left arm spinner Duncan Drew finished of the tail with 2-7. Anthony Cromwell was rewarded for this fine form so far this season behind the stumps with two stumping's.
