In an exciting match Union beat Albion by 4 wickets with Daniel Conlon taking his first five wicket bag in the Albion innings, while Paul Odell continued his fine form during the season scoring a hard hitting 89.
After winning the toss, Albion captain Peter Cartwright elected to bat first and after moving to 35-1 lost three wickets for only 3 runs. However this bought in Paul Odell who gradually built his innings and then dominated the Union bowling attack. When his wicket fell with the total on 172-9 he had scored 89 runs with 5 sixes and 9 fours. Such was the importance of his innings the next highest score in the innings was Nigel Moriarty with 22. Albion was all out for 187 in the 45th, a very competitive total on a hot Oamaru day. Opening bowler Daniel Conlon took 1-11 in his first spell but it was his second were he started to shine taking 4 wickets for 26 runs and was sitting on a hat-trick at one stage. Phillip Crossan was rewarded with 4 for 35 and took a two wicket maiden in his second over. Antony Cromwell took two wickets behind the stumps.
Once again Union got of to a good start from openers Glynn Cameron and James Cutt. The pair (averaging 47 runs for the opening stand this season) scored 46 runs together before Cameron was dismissed to the bowling of Odell for 22. Thomas Shields was next to the crease as he and Cutt combined for a 26 run partnership before Shields was dismissed for 15, caught by Steven Halliwell of the bowling of Paul Odell. It was to be partnerships that set Union onto a victory, Drew (4) and Cutt combining for 31 runs for the third with Cutt playing the role of anchor for the innings before he to was dismissed for 46 with Union at 122-4. At this stage the match was still reasonably evenly poised and at the crease was Mitchell McRae and Andrew McCulloch. The pair combined for a valuable 31 runs before McCulloch was given out leg before wicket to the bowling of Fletcher for 18 runs. Next in was Antony Cromwell. Cromwell's 17 runs came very quickly, with a six and a four included in his innings, but the main effect his runs gave was to ease the pressure on the required run rate. It was left suitably to Mitchell McRae, who had taken over Cutts role as anchor, to hit a four to bring up the winning runs with 16 balls to spare, McRae finishing on 35 not out. Captain Paul Johnston was the other not out batsmen with 1.
