The Payne Tempero Cup has returned to King George Park after the Senior team beat Oamaru by a comfortable 85 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat Union was in trouble being 3-12 losing both openers (James Cut 4, Glynn Cameron 0) and Thomas Shields (5) on a slow and unbouncing wicket. A good partnership between Duncan Drew and Mitch McRae then steadied the innings before the loss of Drew for a well hit 43 of the bowling of veteran Paul Selbie. Mark Wilson was next to the crease and continued his good form this season combining with McRae for a 37 run partnership. McRae was the next to go caught of the bowling of Regan George for 23. Like the previous week Wilson looked to be the anchor for the Union team being the 9th wicket lost for 37. The last wicket stand was a good effort from tail enders Phillip Crossan and Daniel Conlon as they looked to bat out the last few over's of the innings. They fell only 1 over short, Conlon out for 2, Union all out for 169 after 43.5 over's. On a wicket that was getting worse as the day went on, 169 was a very competitive total.

When Oamaru came out to bat they faced a fired up Mike Ormandy. Ormandy was at his lethal best bowling his in-swingers to the right handers. Gutsell and Hill, the Oamaru openers, found it hard to score runs and after the first eight over's had only 20 runs. It was Ormandy who took the first wicket, Gutsell out leg before wicket for 7. As the innings continued Oamaru failed to produce the partnerships that were needed. The highest wicket partnership of the innings was 22 between Nick Johnston and David Sewell, as Oamaru was all out for 84. For Union Ormandy took 3-26 of his ten over's and bowled the best ball of the game, sending Nathan Mitchell's middle stump flying into the air with an in-swinging yorker. Phillip Crossan was good in support finishing with 3-22. Daniel Conlon was unsuccessful in his first spell but in his second spell took the last two wickets of the innings in consultative balls to take 2-18. Paul Johnston was the other bowler used taking 1-15.
