Union successfully defended the Payne Tempero Cup with a 75 run victory over the school side.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Union was immediately in trouble as they lost opener Glynn Cameron for a duck in the first over. As the first few over's were completed Waitaki Boys lifted the pressure with some erratic bowling. At one stage Union was 1-40, Jason Todd on 5 not out and Paul Johnston on 1 not out with the rest of the total being extras. At the end of the innings Waitaki had bowled 40 wide's, the extras totalling 54. The main highlight of the innings was Duncan Drew. Drew looks to be returning to his form that saw his selection in the Otago first class team seven years ago, top scoring with 92 including 18 fours on a quick outfield. Phillip Crossan batting at nine pinch hit with an aggressive 22 including one six and three fours. Stephen Lamb was the next top scorer with 21 who like Crossan hit a six and also hit two fours. Union all out in the 41st over with 251.

Waitaki Boys throughout their innings looked to play positive cricket making a good effort to chasing down the massive total. As the innings progressed it became more evident that it was going to be to much for the school side. For Union Michael Ormandy continued his rich reign of form taking two wickets in his seven over's but it was Cameron who was the main wicket taker. Going into the match Cameron needed two wickets to take 100 senior wickets, of which he took during the game with interest. After taking the last wicket in the innings his final figures were 8.1 over's, 0 maidens, 6 runs for 6 wickets a career best and his first 5 wicket bag in Senior cricket.
