The Payne Tempero Cup has returned to King George Park after a hard fought 7 wicket win over holder Valley at Weston Park.
After winning the toss and electing to field Valley struggled to score runs in a lush and thick outfield. It took them more than 20 over's to score the first boundary and there where only 3 boundaries in the entire innings. Only one batsman scored 20 or more, opener Nick Webster who was one of Phil Crossans 4 victims for 25 runs of his 10 over's. Chris Ware was in fine form taking 2-19 of his 10 over's while Paul Johnston finished with 3-22. Valley all out for 106, in 39 over's.
Unions openers saw their team through to 44 before the loss of Mitchell Clarke for 17. and then Duncan Drew was caught and bowled for 8 of the bowling of Mavor. The next batsman to go was opener Jeremiah Shields, out caught and bowled to Mavor for a patient 22. Glynn Cameron then joined in-form Sean Conlan who saw Union through to the required total in the 29th over. Conlan was not out for 20 including 4 boundaries while Cameron was 7 not out when the total was reached. Union taking the Payne Tempero Cup for the first time since the start of last season.
