Former Senior and North Otago captain, Mark Wilson, marked his return to club cricket with a well complied 51 before he retired in the Senior teams warm up match against Albion. Wilson's innings comprised three fours and two massive sixes as his team recorded a score of 155 of 40 over's. Union was all out in the 38th over for 144 but Albion opted to let the opposition bat for their full 40 over's. Opener Thomas Shields was the next top scorer the innings and was on 22 before he was caught of the bowling of Fletcher. Stephen Lamb showed good form for the new season as well scoring 16. For Albion O'Conner took 3-18, Fletcher 2-33 and Jason Greany took 2-22.

Another player to make his return to club cricket, Philip Crossan, kept the Albion batsman tied up with only 9 runs scored of his 8 over's. It was the spin attack that took the majority of the wickets as the Albion batsmen start to try and raise the run rate. New captain Paul Johnston led from the front taking 3 wickets for 19 runs, Glynn Cameron, who has gone back to leg spin, took 2 wickets for 22 runs and another player who is making his return to club cricket this year, Duncan Drew, took 2-36. The last wicket of the match came rather cheekily, as Mark Wilson bowled Dayle Fraser on the last over of Drew's 9th over. Unlike Union's innings Albion did not opt to bat for their 40 over's, finishing on 128 after 39 over's.

The Union Senior team now moves onto the first round of the Borton Cup competition facing the St Kevin's College 1st XI at King George Park. This match not only sees 12 points up for grabs in the Borton Cup competition, but team will defend the Payne Tempero Cup in the first Payne Tempero Cup Challenge, the new Challenge trophy for the Senior competition.
