The Union senior team will play this coming weekend in their third Borton Cup final in a row after a crushing WBHS by 8 wickets in the weekend.
After being put in to bat first the school side made a good start with Sean Eathorne and Tisdall looking comfortable at the crease. Eathorne, who had been in commanding form in previous weeks notching up three centuries, looked to be set for another big score looked to chip one over the in-field of the bowling of Glynn Cameron but was caught in a brilliant running catch by Brad Fleming. Soon Waitaki was in deep trouble losing wickets at regular intervals as Cameron, and then Duncan Drew started making in-roads into the Waitaki batting. After 27 over's Waitaki had been bowled out with a disappointing 105 runs on the board, Eathorne the sole batsman to get a score over 20. For Union Glynn Cameron celebrated a return to form at the right time of the season taking 6-40 while Drew bowled four economical over's finishing with 3-2.
Antony Cromwell looked to get his team of to a quick start notching up 28 runs at a rapid pace before he was caught of the bowling of Eathorne. Fellow opener Jeremiah Shields played the anchor role in the innings, safely seeing Union through to the required target in 23 over's, Shields finishing with 37 not out.
Union will now play Albion in the final at Whitestone Contracting Stadium this coming weekend attempting to win the Borton Cup for the third season in a row for the first time since the 1980s.
