The Union Senior team started its Borton Cup defence with a 110 run win in a repeat of last seasons Borton Cup final.
Albion won the toss and elected to field on a low and slow pitch at King George Park. The decision looked to be a good one with the home side at 48-4 after 13 over's. This bought together veterans Glynn Cameron and Thomas Shields who combined for a critical 72 ruin partnership that put the home side on top. The loss of Cameron started a collapse to finish the innings for 189, a challenging total for Albion in the slow conditions. Union was helped in its total with 41 wide's bowled by Albion.
It was almost a carbon copy of the Borton Cup final last year with opening bowlers Glynn Cameron and Chris Ware making the Albion batsman struggle to score at the required rate. Both bowlers bowled their 10 over's in one spell, Cameron returning the outstanding figures of two wickets for seven runs with seven maidens - six of those bowled in succession. Ware was aggressive bowling a number of short balls taking two for twenty of his ten over's. Albion took almost twice as many over's to reach 50 than Union and never really recovered after those first 20 over's, all out for 79 in the 37th over. Paul Johnston with his slow right arm bowling took three for twelve of six over's while Isaac Shields cleaned up the tail taking two for five of his 1.3 over's
