The Union Cricket Club senior team will miss out on the Dick Hunt final this season after losing to Albion by 25 runs at Awamoa Park in the weekend.
Chasing the modest total of 161 for victory a great example of opening bowling was put on by Albion's Brad Kernahan to leave Union reeling at 41/6. Antony Cromwell, batting at 8 in the order, then bought the attack back to the opposition with his first six scoring shots containing 4 sixes. He combined with Jason Todd for a 45 run 7th wicket partnership to bring some glimmer of hope back into the side but with the loss of Todd and then Johnston, Cromwell found he was fast running out of partners. Cromwell was the last batsman out, caught for 61 as Union fell 26 runs short of victory.
Earlier Albion has been bowled out for 160 in the 48th over thanks mainly to an 87 partnership between Steve Halliwell and Brad Kernahan. Kernahan bought his half-century quickly before being caught out on the boundary by Jeremiah Shields. Youngster Jeremy Smith occupied the crease for his 28 as the middle and tail order struggled to accumulate runs from the tight Union bowling. Munroe was the last batsman out as spin bowler Duncan Drew took three of the last four wickets to finish with 3-18 of 6 overs. Glynn Cameron took 3-35 of his 9 overs while Jason Todd (2-34) and Paul Johnston was economical with 2-12 of his 10 overs
Seniors will now have a week off with the Dick Final being played next weekend before the Borton Cup starts again the following weekend.
