The Union senior team won by the smallest of margins yesterday against Albion with the match going down to the final wicket.
Earlier Albion had notched up 198/9 in its 50 overs thanks to Jeremey Smith (76) and some wayward bowling with more than 50 wides recorded during the innings. For Union captain Brad Fleming (2-35) took two top order wickets with Whyte (16) and then Halliwell (0), while the returning Isaac Shields took 2-21 in a very tidy spell and veteran Paul Johnston cleaned up the tail with 4-36 of 9 overs.
Neil Rushton, making his return to KGP for a number of years, was promoted to the top of the order and put in two lusty blows before he was bowled by Paul Odell for 10. Duncan Drew then looked to solidify the innings as others got started but were dismissed soon after. Jake Greenslade (23) was his typically aggressive self with 4 boundaries in his innings including a massive hit that cleared the groundsman's shed and the match ball was lost. With Union 123-3 after 24 overs, with Drew and Glynn Cameron at the crease, Union looked to be in complete control of the match however Albion continued to make inroads into the Union batting. Matt Lilley after hitting a six of the first bal he faced went quickly while Isaac Shields hit three boundaries in his brief stay before he was caught on the the second ball of Winters 9th over.
