The Union Cricket Club Senior team suffered a loss in the first round of Borton Cup cricket for season 2020-2021.

In its chase of 197 for victory they got of to the best possible start with the Shields twins scoring runs seamily at will at they put on 89 for the first wicket. Experienced campaigners Antony Cromwell and Duncan Drew then looked to build after both Shields were dismissed along with Blake James but found scoring difficult as Waitaki Boys started to come back into the game. With the loss of Brad Fleming with the score on 157 this effectively stopped the visitors any chance of victory despite 18 from Stephen Wilson.

Earlier Waitaki Boys had started of very slowly notching up 100 runs in the 32nd over. This then lead to new player coach Ben Donkers to crank it up a notch. When he was dismissed, his team has scored 196 runs, one ball short of the 50th over, having scored by far the highest score of the match with 90. For Union Blake James (2-24) was very economical while Annesh Kumar (3-47) and Happy Singh (3-41) took three wickets each.
