The Union Senior Team is the only team to remain unbeaten in the Borton Cup as they confidently dispatched Valley in its second Payne Tempero defence for the season.
After being put into bat, the Union innings was two wickets down for 43 runs with the loss of Antony Cromwell (20) and Duncan Drew (1) which brought together Sean Conlan and Jeremiah Shields. The two combined for a 100 run partnership that put Union in complete control as they batted for 25 overs before the loss of Sean Conlan for 44. Union lost three quick wickets before Ryan Whitburn and Thomas Shields (batting low in the order due to a hand injury) combined to put on 28 runs in 6 overs. The innings finished at 212-8, the teams first 200+ score for the season helped along by 39 wide's. For Valley, McLaughlin took 5/29.
It was another typical Union bowling performance as Valley looked to chase down the 213 needed for victory. Cameron was extremely economical as he was joined with the new ball duties by the returning veteran Phillip Crossan with the total crawling to 23-2 of 10 overs. Valley struggled to put together any partnership of substance not ticking the total over and as a result losing wickets. The only pairing that looked to be bring the game back in Valley's was McLaughlin and Broughton but when the partnership was broken with the score on 92 it effectively broke any resistance with Valley all out 22 runs later. McLaughlin was the top scorer for the innings with 33 while Broughton scored 32. Crossan celebrated his return taking 3/32 of his 10 overs, Duncan Drew continued his run of form with the ball taking 4-9 of 4.5 overs while Cameron finished with 2-17 of 8 overs.
