The Union Cricket Club senior team remain on top of Borton Cup points table after beating co-leaders going into the weekend WBHS by 48 runs at Milner Park.

After losing the toss and being put into bat they lost the returning North Otago opener Jeremiah Shields early in only the second over of the innings. It was then that other returning North Otago players Duncan Drew and Glynn Cameron provided some stability to their team. The two combined for the highest partnership of the match, putting on 71 for the second wicket before the loss of Drew for 35. Union then struggled to enforce the pace as Stephan Grobler (1-30) and Munro (3-30) bowled good line and length. Cameron was out not long after Drew, top scoring with 38. Trying to hit out with wickets in hand, Union soon saw wickets fall constantly and failed to bat out the 50 overs, all out in the 46th. The innings dominated by Drew and Cameron, finished at all for 173.

In its chase Waitaki Boys were soon in trouble with Matt Lilley ripping through the top order taking the first four wickets to fall. Union kept the pressure on with some tight bowling and after half of their overs were allotted there was only 52 runs on the board. Riley Rooney was the top scorer for the innings with 42 but no supported him as Waitaki were bowled all out in the 42nd over for 125. Matt Lilley fittingly took the final wicket, finishing with 5-30 - his second five wicket bag this season and in Union colours.
