Glynn Cameron celebrated becoming the most capped Union senior player scoring his second century for the club in the Payne Tempero defence against Albion yesterday.

After Albion won the toss and elected to field first, they put the pressure on the Union innings as they crawled to 50 in the 19th over, but crucially they had not made any inroads into the home sides batting. It wasn't until the 24th over that the first wicket fell, Shields for 30 off 77 balls, and then when the wicket of Duncan Drew fell shortly after it looked like Albion might be starting to get on top the Union batting. However Thomas Shields and Cameron then combined for a 115 run third wicket partnership which put Union in a strong position, Shields bring up his half century in 60 balls. The partnership was broken when in a calling mishap Shields scarified his wicket as Cameron was nearing his century. Cameron then bought his century up with a boundary, it had taken 136 balls and his second 50 in 53 balls. Paul Johnston (8no) then hit two boundaries in the last over of the innings, Union finishing with 240/3 in its 50 overs with thunderstorms circling around the ground. For Albion only Ricky Whyte managed to pick up any wickets, taking 2-35 while Paul Odell was extremely economical finishing with 0-19 of his ten overs

Albion lost the early wicket of Paul Odell for 6 in the 4th over however at 22/1 in the 8th over the game was still evenly poised. Players then soon had to rush for cover as a heavy hail storm then led to a long delay in play. Despite heavy rain continuing to fall in other parts of Oamaru and Weston which led to the other games being abandoned, the match at King George Park was restarted after a break in the weather. With the run-rate being put into effect, Albion was set the revised target of 145 in 30 overs and bowlers reduced to a maximum of 6 overs each. Albion looked to tick the scoreboard over and hit the bad ball away however with some good fielding from Union the run rate started to climb. With the wicket of Peter Cartwright for 18 to the bowling of Brad Fleming, this started a three wicket collapse that ripped the heart out of the Albion middle order. Fleming had the wicket of Winter for 9 in the same order, then Brad Kernahan was caught by Whitburn of the bowling of Johnston for 1, Albion 62/5 in the 16th over. When the important 20th over was completed, they were 20 runs behind the run-rate required and rain showers starting to fall. They started to hit out to get back into the game, however wickets started to fall. Fleming completed his overs with figures of 4-21, his best of the season so far, and Dan Conlan then took 2-12. It was left to Johnston to finish the innings taking two wickets in his 6th over, Whyte caught by Conlan and Roulston lbw, and completing the Union victory. He finished with 3-24 of his 6 overs and Albion all out for 105, 30 runs of the required total.
