The Union v. Albion match was played on the St. Kevin's ground. Brooker won the toss and Albion batted first. The wicket proved quite up to expectations and was very fast. In the early stages the wind had died down but later in the afternoon increased in violence.

Sampson and Jacobs opened to the bowling of Blair. Both batsmen were very subdued, and only five runs were on the board when Jacobs lifted one from McDonald to Borrows. In his next over the same bowler clean bowled Sampson. Three more wickets fell quickly, and five wickets were down for 39. At this stage Davey and Dennis, a recent arrival from Invercargill, got together and a partnership of 62 resulted. Dennis being run out with 26 to his credit. Davey was very aggressive, but failed to get on to one of McDonald's and was well caught at long-on by Blair. His hit five 4's and one six. A Brooker was absent and the tail failed to wag. McDonald bowled very steadily for Union. The ground fielding was good but several catches were dropped. McCullum kept wickets well.

J. Robertson and Spear opened for Union, Howie and McLaren being the bowlers. Robertson was at home from the start, but Spear fell victim to McLaren. Brown filled the gap and then a partnership of 73 followed. L. Brooker bowling Robertson. Catto kept his end up while Brown scored steadily. At 138 Catto lifted one from Howie. The light was getting very bad. McDonald and Brown stayed together till stumps were drawn at six o'clock. Brown hit eight fours. At no stage was the bowling very difficult.

The big boundary made fours hard to get and many three's were scored.
