Thomas Shields created history yesterday scoring the first double hundred in the clubs history.

Batting first at King George Park, Shields batted all 50 overs facing 151 balls to bring up 204 not out. He dominated the innings to the extent that the night highest score was 30 (Sean Conlan) with 172 of his runs coming from boundries (25 4s, 12 6s). His last 104 runs coming of only 20 balls. Shields record score surpassed the clubs highest score set 83 years ago by Doug Papps when he scored 182 against Oamaru. When the 50 overs were up Union had the board 347/7, thanks in a major part to Shields outstanding innings. Jordy Whyte (21) put on 120 with Shields for the 7th wicket, while he was also supported by Brad Fleming (24). For Albion captain Ricky Whyte took 2 wickets but took a lot of punishment from Shields going for 107 runs in his 10 overs, while Tom Squire took 2-47 of his 10.

Albion was never really in chase being bowled all out for 111 in the 31st over. Batting a man down, only Jonty Naylor looked like maybe giving his team an outside chance scoring 50 runs, all of those coming from boundaries. Ricky Whyte looked to anchor the innngs at the top with 16, while Hayden Creedy notched up 13. Jorday Whyte (2-35), Happy Singh (2-34) and Aneesh Kumar (2-5) all took two wickets each.

Union won the match by 236 runs, the highest margin of victory for our Senior team in a North Otago Cricket Senior One Day game.
