In its first home match since losing the Payne Tempera Cup to Valley, the Union Senior team had a dominant victory over Waitaki Boys at King George Park.

Batting first Union made 303/9 in almost 50 overs in an innings dominated by a 165 run partnership between Sean Conlan and Paul Johnston, and 56 wides - the most by any Senior team against Union in a one day fixture. Conlan notched up his second century for the club with 103, while Johnston just missed out on a half century with 48. Bowling for Waitaki Boys Jessy Lusty-Winter cleaned up the tail with 4-26, while Grobler took 2-31 on his ten overs.

Having to bowl an extra 10 overs due to extras, Waitaki Boys went over time and were reduced to 45 overs to get 304 runs for victory. They started badly losing their first two wickets quickly with the score on 10 before Grobler tried to his team moving. Grobler had 33 runs of 26 balls before Brad Fleming had his wicket, caught by Isaac Shields. The rest of the Waitaki batsmen could not get on top of the Union attack as they took wickets constantly through pressure and aggressive fields. Fleming was rewarded with some good bowling taking 5-29, while Glynn Cameron took 2-36 and Shields 2-16. Waitaki ended their innings in the 35th over losing their final wicket with the score on 132, 172 runs short of victory, and their second largest loss against Union in a one day fixture.
