Oamaru v. Union
Monday, 11 December 1922

The Oamaru and Union teams met on Saturday for the first time this season. Union weakened by the absence of Gale, batted first, two men short, and made 64, of which Todd made 16 in a few hits before he was caught by Zimmerman and Robertson, batting patiently made 22 before Pope snared him smartly at silly leg. Hargreaves kept a very good length and took six wickets for 31 on a wicket that gave him no help. Oamaru started with Uttley and Pope both of whom played patiently to the good length bowling of Graham and Robertson, until Uttley failed to stop a fast yorker. Pope and Hargreaves carried on quietly for a period until the bowling began to lose it s length, when Hargreaves took advantage of the laxity, and was putting on the runs fast when he was given out l.b.w. Pope, in over an hour had scored only two runs, but he carried his total to 22 before he played over a yorker. Zimmerman came in to flagging bowling, and quickly getting set hit up runs very quickly, his 79 including a fine six of Graham and 13 fours.
