The Union Senior team are back in the winners circle after beating Waitaki Boys by 4 wickets in the weekend, in Thomas Shields 100th senior game and making the Payne Tempero cup stay at KGP for the winter.

Batting first Waitaki' s innings was dominated by player/coach Stephan Grobler who carried his bat scoring 101 of total of 147 runs. Losing partners constantly he took to the Union attack hitting 7 fours and 6 sixes including one six that hit the roof of the clubrooms. Best of the Union bowlers were Fleming (3-20), Isaac Shields (3-27) and Duncan Drew (3-21) who all took three wickets each.

The home teams innings got of to a flier as Jeremiah Shields and Ants Cromwell took to the Waitaki bowlers. The pair put on 50 in 7 overs before Cromwell was out leg-before-wicket to the bowling of Nathan Smith for 22. Shields continued on and with the loss of his wicket for 58 he helped his team to a winning position. Seniors lost two further wickets in a mini-collapse but had done enough to ensure victory, losing six wickets before reaching the required target. Youngster Nathan Smith was the pick of the Waitaki bowlers with 2-22 of 7 while Grobler (2-27) and Dan Lolo in his first senior match took 2-26.

Already qualified as top with one week to go in round robin play, seniors will be looking to go into its semi-final with another win in its last round robin game, against St Kevin's.
