The Union Cricket Club Senior team suffered its first loss on the Borton Cup for this season losing to bottom team Oamaru by 50 runs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Oamaru saw its top order fall to the bowling of Glynn Cameron as he took the first four wickets and brought up his 200th senior wicket in the process. Never looking like to set a big total, the home team lost wickets constantly throughout their innings with the biggest partnership coming during the ninth with David Sewell combining with Whitham for 31 runs. Sewell was the last wicket to fall, top scoring at 10 in the order, with 25. Cameron finished with 4-26 of his 10 while Jason Todd (2-30) and Isaac Shields (2-17) took two wickets each.
Union struggled in its chase like the Oamaru innings with no partnerships developing during the innings. With the forecast rain starting to fall they were still in with a chance at 71/4, but within 10 runs four wickets fell - three of those on 81 which effectively ended any hopes for a Union victory. Brad Fleming was the last wicket to fall, Union losing by 50 runs. For Oamaru David Sewell took 3-33, Gary Clearwater took 4-15 and Scott Wilson 2-24
