In another close final Albion beat Union by 2 wickets to win the Borton Cup for the season 2000-2001.

Losing the toss and forced to bat, Union scored runs very slowly on a dry and dusty outfield. The star of the innings was Neville Donaldson who hit form at the right time batting through the 50 over's to score 101 not out, and formed an unbeaten 88 run partnership with Paul Johnston (22 not out) when Union looked to be in trouble at 118-6. Union finished with 206-6 after their 50 over's. All Albion bowlers recorded some good figures, with form New Zealand rep Shaun Tracey being the best with 2-25 of 7 over's.

Union soon had Albion in trouble at 0-1 after Chris Cunningham was dismissed of the 5th ball of the innings by John Crombie but a 141 run partnership between Warrick Coe (47) and Ryan de Joux (82) put Albion back in control. After the loss of Coe a batting collapse follow that made for a tight finish. First Bruce Murphy was adjudged leg before wicket for a second ball duck, then Union took the wicket of de Joux also given leg before wicket for a big hitting 82, Wade Moore followed for 7 caught by Duncan Drew, then Craig McDonald was caught by Mark Wilson for 1, Albion captain Shaun Tracey was next bowled by Crombie for a duck, then Brett Maxwell was out for a duck by leg before wicket of the bowling of Crombie to leave Albion 190-8 and Union a glimmer of hope of taking out the Borton Cup for second year in a row. However that was not to be as Albion all-rounder Matt Tait, backing up his economical bowling effort, scored a match winning 52 not out and hand the Borton Cup to Albion for the 2000-2001 season. For Union John Crombie looked to be the bowler who would rip apart the Albion batting and he recorded the best figures of the day of 6-44, Neville Donaldson backing up his century from the Union innings was the other wicketaker taking 2-50.
